Solar Racking Market 2026: What Channel Makers Should Know

A year ago the solar industry was debating how fast the growth could last. In 2026 the question is different: can the supply chain keep up? For manufacturers of solar racking channels, the answer defines where the next orders for production lines will come from.

Solar keeps setting records

Global solar PV capacity passed one terawatt in 2022, after a record 168 GW was installed in 2021 alone (SolarPower Europe). Deployment kept climbing: annual additions moved into the 400+ GW range in 2023 and are estimated at roughly 550–600 GW for 2024 by the major industry trackers, carrying cumulative global capacity past 2 TW. 2025 closed at a similar record pace, and the IEA continues to revise its long-term solar forecasts upward rather than down.

Growth is also spreading geographically. According to AP News (February 2026), Africa is now the world’s fastest-growing solar market as demand moves beyond the traditional strongholds of China, Europe and North America.

Where new racking capacity is being built

China still installs more solar than the rest of the world combined. India is the growth engine of Asia and is pushing hard to produce racking components locally. The Middle East’s mega utility projects are driving sustained demand for ground-mount channel. And in Europe, the United States and Southeast Asia, C&I and rooftop are the fastest-growing segments — the segment with the highest share of strut channel, C channel and bracing per installed kilowatt.

Why racking plants are going local

Trade barriers are the quiet driver behind most of the channel line orders we see today. Localization rules, import duties and content requirements in the largest solar markets, plus changing freight economics, are pushing EPCs and racking brands to build production capacity close to where they install. A new racking plant starts with its channel line — strut, C, top hat, Z, bracing — and that is where the equipment demand comes from. Our largest single shipment in 2025 was seven containers of solar channel lines for one such plant in India.

Trends channel makers should design around

  1. Zinc-aluminum-magnesium is replacing hot-dip galvanizing as the default channel coating — here is how the two compare.
  2. The 41-series profiles are standardized, but customers run three to five sizes at a time, so quick-change or cassette tooling is becoming table stakes (our selection guide covers the size ranges).
  3. Automation is the main cost lever: auto stacking, servo feeding and servo cutting cut labour per metre of channel.
  4. Seismic regions add bracing channel to the product mix — worth planning for before the first order, not after.

Bottom line

The solar racking market in 2026 is not a question of whether demand exists — it is a question of where the next local plant is being built, and what profile mix it will run. If that is you, or a customer you serve, the conversation to start now is the line itself.
